THOMAS WILSON BERRY III

END OF WATCH: AUGUST 13, 2024

Born on March 13, 2001, in Milford, DE, to his parents, Jayme (Argo) Romo and Thomas W. Berry, II. He graduated from Milford High School in the class of 2019. Thomas was employed by Sussex County Paramedics as a Logistics Tech. He was known for being hardworking, with a remarkable work ethic, fun-loving, humble and committed to his passion in the fire service. "Little Tommy," as he was known to his first responder brothers and sisters, was currently a member of the Georgetown Fire Department, Station #77 and the Ellendale Fire Department, Station #75. He also loved modifying pickup trucks. Most of all Thomas loved spending time with his family.

Tommy, was a selfless public servant with a promising career, lost his life while rendering aid to a motorist involved in a vehicle crash near Georgetown and was killed by live power lines after helping a victim out of a vehicle that had struck a power pole. Outside of Tommy's professional service as a logistics technician for the County’s Emergency Medical Services division since 2022, Mr. Berry was a volunteer firefighter with the Georgetown and Ellendale fire companies. That training and his response as a volunteer firefighter no doubt served Mr. Berry as he moved into action after coming across the crash on his way back to County offices following a field assignment earlier in the day. Tommy was selfless in his actions to render aid and services to those in need.  Tommy Berry was part of a long line of firefighters and EMTs, with relatives as far back as his great-grandfather serving the Ellendale Fire Company. At the time of his death, he was volunteering with both the Ellendale and Georgetown fire companies while working as a technician for Sussex County Emergency Medical Services.

These wonderful EMTs are both Micron Employees, and WGNSTAR contractors that work at that facility. Approximately 20 Emergency Services Technicians took the time to honor the life and memory of this young hero. This group of EMTs kicked helped this flag get it's start gaining signatures and support. From here, the flag will be passed around fire departments within Boise, Idaho gaining more signatures before it is shipped to Delaware to begin it's journey between departments in that state.
