THE FLAG HONORING FALLEN HOT SPRINGS POLICE OFFICER BRENT SCRIMSHIRE HAS BEEN LOCATED AFTER BECOMING MISPLACED DURING THE PANDEMIC. THE INSTRUCTORS AND CLASS TRAINEES OF THE WASHINGTON STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE TRAINING CENTER HAVE TAKING UP THE MANTLE OF HAVING THE FLAG SIGNED AND DELIVERED TO THE FAMILY OF THIS FALLEN HERO. IT IS WITH GREAT HONOR AND JOY TO SEE THIS FLAG'S STARS AND STRIPES BE FILLED WITH THE LOVE AND SUPPORT OF THESE NEW OFFICERS HONORING THE LIFE AND SACRIFICE OF THIS FALLEN HERO.
CORPORAL BRENT SCRIMSHIRE WAS SHOT AND KILLED WHILE CONDUCTING A TRAFFIC STOP. CORPORAL SCRIMSHIRE HAD STOPPED THE SUBJECT AFTER HIS VEHICLE WAS SEEN RUNNING A STOP SIGN. DURING THE TRAFFIC STOP, CORPORAL SCRIMSHIRE AND A SUBJECT IN THE VEHICLE EXCHANGED GUNFIRE, AND BOTH SUSTAINED GUNSHOTS WOUNDS. BOTH WERE TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL, WHERE OFFICER SCRIMSHIRE SUCCUMED TO HIS WOUNDS.
CORPORAL SCRIMSHIRE HAD BEEN RECOGNIZED AS A REGIONAL OFFICER OF THE YEAR BY THE ARKANSAS ATTORNEY GENERAL IN 2016 AND HAD RECENTLY BEEN RECOGNIZED AS THE HOT SPRINGS POLICE DEPARTMENT'S OFFICER OF THE QUARTER.
CORPORAL SCRIMSHIRE HAD SERVED WITH THE HOT SPRINGS POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR 6 YEARS. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, DAUGHTER, AND SON.
